It was 2016 when I found myself facing a possible bankruptcy. I could not believe this was happening to me.
The reasons for my financial difficulties was a combination of my spouse continuously being laid off at work in the Oshawa auto industry and the fact that I did not file my taxes.
As I had always been able to manage my finances, I procrastinated in hopes that a miracle would happen, but it didn’t.
When I finally got up the nerve to call someone, I couldn’t believe the compassion and all the information I received in that wonderful phone call. Suddenly the shame and fear diminished and I set up an appointment to speak with the trustee.
During my appointment, the trustee went over my options in detail and in a manner that was very easy to understand.
The trustee explained that bankruptcy was not my only option and maybe a consumer proposal could benefit me as well.
I left the trustees office with an new sense of hope. That first phone call to the trustee was one of the most important calls I have ever made and only wished I made it months sooner which would have saved me a lot of anxiety and sleepless nights.
Once I had all the information together with the trustee we picked the solution and a consumer proposal was the way for me.
In that initial meeting the trustee established a monthly payment that I could afford, she advised me that all interest in would stop upon acceptance of my consumer proposal I could pay it off anytime.
In the first month into my consumer proposal, I was already feeling that the financial burden has been lifted, my physical and mental health immediately improved.
Upon filing my consumer proposal I was able to take back my life and get total control of my finances. As the months and years past, the stigma that I thought went hand-in-hand with financial crisis was not Even a second thought, I felt so good about myself and my situation!
I have since completed my consumer proposal and have started re-establish my credit.
I started out by receiving a credit card with a very small minute. I’ve gradually rebuild my credit by ensuring that I would only make small purchases so that I could pay off the entire balance when it became due.
I have since purchased my own home and I am well on the way to financial recovery.
Please don’t delay in making that first called like I did. There are options out there and I would not be where I am today without the help of YanchDey Bankruptcy and Consumer Proposal Trustees.
The compassion and professionalism I received from their staff helped me make one of the most important decisions of my life in and informed and straightforward.
